66 in North FL, but we're rainy

01:01:02
I was in Washington DC yesterday and did not need to wear a coat. It is 16 degrees here in Boston today.

01:02:22
Hi All - Cathy Van Hoy from Oklahoma Dept of Libraries - freakish 22 degrees here

01:03:00
Yes, Jaime.

01:03:19
is there a limit on attendees? Some people are emailing me saying they can’t get in because it’s full.

01:03:25
Hi Jamie - we're on, and all speakers can be heard on this end. Let me know if you're still having issues!

01:03:55
@Michelle: I think it's 300, so we should be ok...

01:04:58
It's capped at about 100, unfortunately, but everyone will get a recording link - we've had a ton of registrants today.

01:05:15
Excellent!

During the 2010 Census, the U.S. Census Bureau had a set of educational materials titled "Its In Our Hands" that were geared towards schools and teachers, but I used it in our library. Does the Census Bureau have educational materials for the 2020 Census yet?

01:37:08
Who is going to talk about NY?

01:37:13
I'm here!

01:37:25
Larra, I will

01:37:28
If Gavin, he could speak to the citizenship question.

01:37:43
Thanks Gavin.

01:38:07
Or you could pass to me, if you wanted...

01:39:09
I have been told by local Census staff that there will be school materials about 2020 Census. Keep an eye on the Census in Schools part of their web site: https://www.census.gov/schools/

01:39:10
Thanks for the question, Carey. We'll address after the state info...

01:40:19
Thanks Linda and Arlene. It's still early in development cycle for materials for the 2020 Census, but we know they're working on them. Thanks for sharing the link.

01:40:25
Some resources from the Census Bureau are available at https://www.census.gov/partners

01:40:48
And we will link out to major resources from the ALA webpage at http://www.ala.org/advocacy/govinfo/census

01:41:21
Yes, that's right Diane, Forefront is an Illinois funder, but there are funders working in many states, so folks should check if there are community funders or groups of funders working on the 2020 Census.

01:43:55
To contact a representative of the Census Bureau in your community, reach out to the regional office that covers your area: https://www.census.gov/regions

01:47:12
JoAnne, good suggestion. We'll look into it.

01:47:19
Thanks for the idea, JoAnn. I don't think this was on our radar, so it's good to think about.

01:47:56
The Illinois State Library is encouraging public libraries to allow non-residents to use computers to fill out online census forms.

01:48:11
Thank you, Joe, excellent point!

01:49:34
I am unclear as to whether the census will be available to complete by citizens online only, or will there be a paper option too?

Good question, Melissa. People can respond in three ways: by phone, online and by paper.

01:51:16
Here are all the states covered by the US Census Bureau Chicago Region: https://www.census.gov/about/regions/chicago.html

01:51:31
If folks are not comfortable with technology, it might be faster by phone.

01:51:48
Our local complete count committee has decided to not do a lot of outreach until the citizenship question has been settled.

01:51:51
Gavin might know more from his experience in 2010 about what the average amount of time is...

01:52:48
Exactly when in 2020 will the census begin?

01:53:53
Lynnette, the first mailings inviting people to respond to the Census will start in mid-March 2020.

01:55:41
Our federal rep suggests that we hold a statewide launch in libraries on April 1, 2019, the one year countdown

01:56:01
Based on my own experience, when contacting your local Census regional office, make sure to ask for the Census 2020 partnership specialists for your state ... they are distinct from the regular staff in the Regional Office

One other thing that will happen earlier is people applying for Census jobs and getting trained. All of this will also happen online. This also is an advocacy opportunity to talk about how libraries support workforce opportunities.

Thanks Norene. I know the Census Bureau welcomes library support in letting folks know about the job opportunities!

01:58:58
Thanks everyone!!

01:59:01
Bye everyone!

01:59:01
