It’s a brilliant low-cost solution for converting traditional kennels that were created for dogs. I’m excited to get some shelters on board doing this and hopefully pooling the cost on the plasma cutter. Y’all are awesome!!

Our banks of cages are portalized both! We can open the cages side by side as well as to the cages on the bottom!

Might be able to partner with a local tooling company that has a plasma cutter -- maybe create sponsorship opportunity for local business -- they can loan tool & maybe operator in exchange for free advertising at shelter, on website, events and such.

I think I saw a typo on and earlier slide - "would increase euthanasia" should be "would not increase euthanasia." Can you check on that?

She did say that she promised to NOT increase euthansia rates. I believe the word was just missing on the slide

Have any of you used a nibbler tool instead of a plasma cutter? I know the nibbler is less expensive

What influenced the idea to make portals in the first place? Where did the inspiration come from?

During busy season, do you ever revert back to using the smaller kennels (can the portals be locked?)

Pamela, there are several shelters in LA that have taken the portal plunge and found out their live release has gone UP. Check in out at South L.A. city and the Lancaster shelter in L.A. County. By keeping cats healthy and less stressed, they stay less than half the time, so you can move more through with less than half the space. It does seem like magic.

I’d assume technically you get more square footage for cats this way

Square footage is also increased with vertical surfaces.

We are still doing this automatically -- very few cats move straight up for adoption in the lobby because there just isn't room. Does the move from the "back" to the "front" become less stressful when they have portals in both places?
