Yes! Thank you for the honesty, Alicia! I've heard other female ER docs tell similar stories about relationships with nurses, and you're specific advice is so helpful.

I love the "keep everyone calm and informed" approach during stressful situations. this method would keep good ideas flowing, medical students aware of what is going on, and nurses ready to act and provide what is necessary.

I love that. I definitely worry about fitting in and staying myself. One of my worries with Emergency medicine is the "man up" attitude I've seen

How do you elegantly deal with being called "babe" or "honey" from your male bosses/colleagues/etc without embarassing them but still allowing you to stand up for yourself?

What advice would you give to medical students, male or female, looking to pursue EM?

I've heard from female physicians that during residency interviews, women still often get asked about whether or not they plan on having kids- how do you respond to this? Do you call out the illegality of the question? Do you answer the question honestly even if it may hurt your chances of matching?

Do you have any tips for learning to continually take criticism gracefully? Logically, we know constructive criticism is a vital part of our education, but while receiving it, often times the gut reaction is to feel as though you disappointed an attending or educator

It definitely comes up. You have to gauge the reason why they are asking.

The first step in finding a “Champion” is pushing yourself forward and talking initiative and Champions will find you.
