Does rotation have to be >/= to 4 weeks to request a SLOE?
Linda Hodes Villamar, MD, MPH
01:46:57
Yes, 4 weeks is best for SLOE

How many places did you apply for each month you wanted to rotate? And did you have to turn any down/ did that hurt you from getting interviews later?
Student MS3
01:49:52
My institution EM faculty suggested against rotating in July due to new residents starting that month. How does that weigh in compared to getting thats second SLOE in? Are you risking a weak SLOE?
Linda Hodes Villamar, MD, MPH
01:51:53
I will add my two cents as a program director: It is nearly impossible to accept everyone for rotation before September. If you at least have 1 SLOE in by then that's key, the second one can come in October as many EM programs won't really choose students for interviews until the Dean's Letters come out on Oct 1st, so be a bit flexible on this and we are more likely to be able to accept you for a rotation.
Linda Hodes Villamar, MD, MPH
01:52:05
clerkship director, excuse me!
ak
01:54:00
Thank you for the response, Dr. Villamar. Would you say that only having the minimum 1 SLOE in by Sept 15th and having only 2 SLOEs total (by October) can hurt your application/prevent you from getting as many interviews as someone who has 3 SLOEs?
Jordan Baker
01:54:25
Why did you recommend rotating at a 4 year program specifically?
Michelle King
01:55:50
For transcript requirements for VSAS, is using an unofficial transcript typically acceptable, or does it need to be an official transcript ordered from the school?
Rick
01:56:01
Is there a way to set up email alerts for when programs release new dates on VSLO?
Philip Giarrusso
01:56:12
My school does not start 4th year until late july, not allowing me to complete more than 1 EM rotation by Sept 15. how will this affect my application?

01:58:25
Is it best to set up a rotation at your top site/program earlier in the year or more towards December?
Karan
01:58:34
Once a program fills a given offering period, does it “disappear” off of VSAS or will it remain in our search results and indicate that time period is “full”?
Student
01:58:42
how about step 2? I was going to take 2 weeks to study for it so that way I can get in two auditions by end of august
ak
01:59:51
would you say that making step 2 studying a priority (e.g. taking more time to do well) or getting in a 3rd SLOE would be more helpful for an otherwise average applicant?

So when applying through vsas, there is a new bio section to write about yourself etc, is this section important to fill out being its optional?
Ciara
02:00:12
^^ I second the short bio question.

Are transitional years prior to EM residency (for DO's particularly) going away?--for Aadil

02:03:22
I have the same question that was posted earlier by Phil: "My school does not start 4th year until late july, not allowing me to complete more than 1 EM rotation by Sept 15. how will this affect my application?"
Aadil Vora, MS4
02:04:27
Hm...I don't know about this pathway. EM can be matched directly from fourth year, a TY year is not needed for DOs or MDs.

Is there a way to update documents on VSLO that have already been sent to schools? For example, if we have updated medical documents.

Question for Dr. Linda Hodes Villlamar -- what would you recommend to a student particularly interested in residency at UNM?
Student
02:07:06
Is an away in the same geographical area as your homesite detrimental to getting interviews across the country?

02:08:04
Dr. Villamar, I understand that CordEM has different sloe forms for non adult EM rotations such as Pediatrics EM, Ultrasound EM, etc. rotations. How are these valued compared to a regular adult EM rotation sloe?
Aadil Vora, MS4
