EMRA Hangout- Program Director's View: How to Enhance Your EM Application
Who can see your viewing activity?
Can you please share your opinions on away rotations? Thanks!
1 page a firm cutoff for personal? non-traditional student... lots to include
Dr. Levine, at the end of your talk could you please comment on how EM is evolving and the direction you believe the field is headed in the future? I read an article recently that was presumably written by a disgruntled EM doctor, so of course I took it with a grain of salt, but he discussed how some ED’s are implementing new policies based entirely on patient wait times. He said that if a patient has waited x time, their name turns yellow, then if they wait longer, it turns red and once it turns red the attending doc immediately gets a call from hospital administration asking why the wait time is so long. He was implying that many hospitals are so focused on the bottom line that they are only concerned with rapid turnover and no longer concerned with quality patient care which is causing a lot of unhappiness and unrest amongst EM docs. I would love to hear your thoughts on this. Thank you
Regarding letters — my school doesn’t have an EM residency, and I have asked our community EM faculty with whom I have rotated for a LOR. Should I have them fill out a SLOE or just write a regular letter?
will this powerpoint be available online?
Any tips for students in Canadian medical schools?
Are there any clinical skills that you recommend that a medical student should hone in on before an away rotation or even their own EM clerkship rotation (eg. CPR, intubation, ALS/BLS)
How do you compare third year clerkship grades when schools are not consistent in their grading criteria? My school makes it almost impossible to earn honors.
Good tips/resources for studying for end of rotation exams during 4th year auditions? Some sites use these scores for SLOEs... Thanks

^^great question, Corey. Thanks
what advice do you have for students who don't have a "home institution" hospital for EM, and how to land 4th year audition rotations? How many VSAS applications? How long to wait to hear back from programs?
regarding research and publications... how do you personally feel as a PD about non-research publications? eg publishing CME material for ACEP or editorals etc etc etc? Do these carry much weight?
How do you view international experiences in medicine? Thanks!
Can you elaborate further about osteopathic dean’s letters not being great? In what way? Thanks!
