Dr. Levine, at the end of your talk could you please comment on how EM is evolving and the direction you believe the field is headed in the future? I read an article recently that was presumably written by a disgruntled EM doctor, so of course I took it with a grain of salt, but he discussed how some ED’s are implementing new policies based entirely on patient wait times. He said that if a patient has waited x time, their name turns yellow, then if they wait longer, it turns red and once it turns red the attending doc immediately gets a call from hospital administration asking why the wait time is so long. He was implying that many hospitals are so focused on the bottom line that they are only concerned with rapid turnover and no longer concerned with quality patient care which is causing a lot of unhappiness and unrest amongst EM docs. I would love to hear your thoughts on this. Thank you

Regarding letters — my school doesn’t have an EM residency, and I have asked our community EM faculty with whom I have rotated for a LOR. Should I have them fill out a SLOE or just write a regular letter?
