Using Cessation and an International Treaty to Strengthen the Health of DC Residents
As an active member of the DC Tobacco-Free Coalition, ASH is hosting this webinar during their annual DC Calls It Quits Week to help draw attention to the need to support cessation in our local communities. Dr. Carla Williams, Interim Director of the Howard University Cancer Center and Chair of the DC Tobacco-Free Coalition, will reiterate the co-morbidity between COVID-19 and tobacco, using Washington, DC data as an example. She will also discuss recent movement on a flavors ban in DC. Kelsey Romeo-Stuppy, Managing Attorney at ASH, will break down a complex global, human rights treaty, the Convention on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD), and how US and global advocates can use that global treaty in their work. CERD is one of the few human rights treaties the US has ratified, meaning the US has a legal obligation to implement it.
