Dr. Laura Vickers
Senior Lecturer in Plant Biology @Harper Adams University
Dr. Laura Vickers gained her Ph.D. in 2012 from the University of Birmingham before working as a postdoc at Harper Adams University (HAU). She took up her role as Lecturer at HAU in 2014 and was also awarded a NERC Knowledge Exchange Fellowship in Horticulture, where she worked with the Horticulture Innovation Partnership in producing a R&D strategy for the Ornamental industry. She is now a Senior Lecturer at HAU and a leading member of the Urban Farming Group. She has led sector consultation events and EU Green Week conferences in Urban Agriculture. Her research focuses on plant adaptation, the value of plants as green infrastructure and in citizen health, how citizens engage with urban agriculture, and how urban food systems can contribute to sustainable food production
Sonny Ramaswamy
President @Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities
After six years of service as President Obama's appointee as the Director of the National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) in Washington, DC, as of July 1, 2018, Sonny Ramaswamy has assumed the presidency of the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities. Prior to this position in the federal government, he worked for 30 years at several Land-Grant Universities, rising through the ranks from assistant professor to professor to distinguished professor and head of the department to associate dean to dean. Sonny has a particular interest and skills in facilitating Strategic Planning, Conflict Resolution, Academic Research, Teaching and Extension Excellence, University-Industry Partnerships, Mentoring, Public Speaking, Program Management, Leadership Development, Grantsmanship, Strategic Budgeting, Alumni Relations, Fundraising and Development, Congressional and Legislative Relations, and Stakeholder Relations.
Dr Marito Garcia
Fellow @Darden School of Business, University of Virginia
Dr. Garcia is a Fellow at the Darden School of Business, University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Virginia, USA. He is a Board Director at Learning Equality, a non-profit education technology company based in San Diego. He is a member of the international working group on digital credentialing as part of the “internet of education” initiative. He is co-founder of Italpinas Development Corporation, a green-building development company in Asia, based in Manila, Philippines; & Orenko Ltd (Cambridge, UK), an energy development company. Dr. Garcia served as senior staff at the World Bank, Washington DC in various capacities: as Sector Manager for Education for Latin America and the Caribbean, Lead Economist and Regional Program Manager for New Economy Skills for Africa. He also managed the Latin American regional portfolio of education &skills development programs. Prior, he was a Research Fellow and economist at the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI).
