The American Advertising Federation will provide an update on three of the most pressing initiatives on marketers’ minds today. First among them, an update to the forthcoming California Consumer Privacy Act as well as other state laws that have been enacted. Second, the prospects for a pre-emptive federal privacy law – with voices of support from both sides of the aisle – continue to grow with a more practical, pragmatic and reasonable approach in the works, as enveloped in the Privacy for America initiative. Third, a review of political ad transparency initiatives, namely the DAA About Political Ads program, with tips on how to implement as campaign season for the 2020 Election begins. This 60-minute Webinar discusses the current state of regulation/self-regulation – and how marketing data users in advertising need to be prepared.

As executive vice president-government affairs, Clark Rector oversees and directs the lobbying efforts of the American Advertising Federation’s grassroots network of 40,000 advertising professionals in some 200 local advertising clubs and federations nationwide. Together, they have defeated ad tax proposals and other threats to advertising in Congress, nearly every state and numerous cities and counties. In his role as chief public policy advocate for the Federation, Rector meets with lawmakers and regulators to educate them about advertising and represent the industry’s position on important legislative and regulatory matters. He has testified for the AAF before the U.S. Senate and Federal Trade Commission, as well as numerous state legislatures and city governments.

Lou Mastria, CIPP, CISSP, is currently Executive Director of the Digital Advertising Alliance, where he leads U.S. and global efforts for self-regulation, consumer transparency and choice in the delivery of interest-based advertising online. The DAA (www.digitaladvertisingalliance.org) Self-Regulatory Program for Online Behavioral Advertising (www.youradchoices.com) was launched in 2010 by a consortium of the nation's largest media and marketing associations. Mastria joined DAA in 2012, and has represented DAA in testimony before Congress and in other industry and policymaking events. Mastria also has served as Chief Privacy Officer at both regulated and self-regulated organizations, serving at the Direct Marketing Association (now part of the Association of National Advertisers), Canoe Ventures, LLC (a joint venture of the nation’s six largest cable companies), and DataLogix Corp., a leading provider of database services.
