This 60-minute inservice will focus on the latest advancements in prosthetic socket technology and how therapy can be expedited for these patients, with the ultimate goal of improved outcomes. The presentation begins with a review of traditional lower extremity (LE) socket measuring and fitting methods for patients with either transtibial or transfemoral levels of amputation. The rationale and patient selection for the Direct Socket System will be covered as well as general concepts of the fabrication process. Implications for physical therapists will be discussed as well as opportunities for interdisciplinary care with occupational therapists. Communication with prosthetists will be stressed throughout regarding the patient selection process.
