Q&A with the Filmmakers | INVISIBLE REPUBLIC

Description

The global release of INVISIBLE REPUBLIC on virtual cinema is accompanied by a Zoom discussion with the filmmakers, featuring writer Lika Zakaryan, director Garin Hovannisian, and producers Serj Tankian and Alec Mouhibian. Watch INVISIBLE REPUBLIC and register to join the Q&A with the filmmakers to discuss the award-winning documentary and the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Artsakh (Karabakh).

The Q&A will be in English and will be simultaneously translated into Armenian, Russian, and French.

The Q&A is organized by the Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU) and Creative Armenia within the frames of a global awareness and education campaign. The organizations ask their communities to WATCH, LEARN & SHARE the award-winning film, inspired by the explosive wartime diary of Lika Zakaryan. All proceeds will be donated to AGBU’s Global Relief Fund and other Artsakh-related charities.

During the war, she started to keep and post her diary, in which she wrote about the war and the people caught up in it. The diary became widely read and loved by people around the world, and remains a definitive chronicle of those forty-four days. In 2021 her diary was published by Creative Armenia under the title 44 Days: Diary from An Invisible War. Garin Hovannisian (Director @INVISIBLE REPUBLIC) Garin Hovannisian is a writer and filmmaker. He has written about Armenia and Artsakh for The Atlantic, The New York Times, and in his memoir Family of Shadows (HarperCollins 2010). He is the co-writer/director of the feature film 1915 (2015) and the director of the feature documentaries I Am Not Alone (2019), Truth to Power (2020), and Invisible Republic (2022). He is also the founder of the arts foundation Creative Armenia. Serj Tankian (Producer @INVISIBLE REPUBLIC) Serj Tankian is the Grammy Award-winning lead singer of the band System of a Down. In addition to five albums with SOAD and a range of solo albums from metal to jazz to orchestral, Tankian has been composing for films since 2015, including such titles as 1915, Intent to Destroy, Furious: The Legend of Krovat, Spitak, and I Am Not Alone. He has also produced Truth to Power and Invisible Republic. Tankian is a founding advisory board member of Creative Armenia. Alec Mouhibian (Producer @INVISIBLE REPUBLIC) Alec Mouhibian is a writer, filmmaker, performer, and producer. He is the producer of the award-winning documentary I Am Not Alone (TIFF, 2019) and the co-writer/director of the feature film 1915 (2015), a psychological mystery set 100 years after the Armenian Genocide.
