Title: Cement Additives and Concrete Admixtures – An Industrial Perspective

A wide variety of chemicals are utilized during the cement grinding process and during the mixing and batching of concrete. These chemicals serve a number of purposes, including improving the efficiency of the clinker grinding process, increasing the flowability of fresh concrete, and increasing concrete strength development. The various categories of additives and admixtures will be reviewed, and their mode of action discussed. The important role of these chemicals in reducing the carbon footprint of concrete will also be discussed.
