Suzanne (Lady Heywood), the author of ‘What Does Jeremy Think’, will be joining Dr Hélène Menagé, Consultant Dermatologist and RSM Trustee, for a fascinating discussion about her biography of her late husband, Jeremy Heywood (Lord Heywood of Whitehall) who directly served four different Prime Ministers during a civil service career that spanned more than 30 years. At the time of his death in the middle of the Brexit negotiations in 2018, Jeremy was both Cabinet Secretary and Head of the Civil Service.
Suzanne’s book about her husband has become a Sunday Times bestseller. It has been widely reviewed across the press, with the Times Literary Supplement calling it an ‘invaluable contribution to the historical record’ and the Financial Times calling it ‘an astonishing book…[that] captures a remarkable sweep of recent UK political history.’
In conversation with Dr Menagé, Suzanne will discuss Jeremy’s career, which included working on multiple health policies including Andrew Lansley’s health reforms and multiple attempts to address the funding of social care. They will also have the chance to cover a wide range of other issues captured in Suzanne’s biography including the handling of the financial crisis, the formation of the coalition government and the Brexit negotiations.
