Mira B. Aghi
Behavioral Scientist and Communications Expert specializing in designing interventions and Board Member @Human Rights Tobacco Control Network
Dr. Mira B. Aghi has been honored by numerous awards, including the International Network of Women against Tobacco Tribute for Outstanding Service to Women in 2009 and the Luther Terry Award in 2012. She was also the first woman from Asia to receive the WHO Gold Medal. She obtained her PhD in Psychology from Loyola University, Chicago and has an Honorary Professorship in Behavioral Science from Universidad Del Salvador, Buenos Aires, Argentina. She is an X- Visiting Scientist, Harvard School of Public Health, Boston. Dr. Aghi has served as a consultant or advisor for numerous global health organizations, including WHO, International Union against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease, IDRC, UNESCO, and UNICEF. She is a member of several task forces of the Framework Convention Alliance (FCA) and is a founding member of INWAT where she continues to serve on the board as South Asia representative. She is on the Board of Human Rights and Tobacco. She is also on the Board of Director of the UNION.
Soon-Young Yoon
Chair of the Board at the Women’s Environment and Development Organization and UN representative @International Alliance of Women
During her past tenure as chair of the NGO CSW/NY, the committee launched the Cities for CEDAW campaign in the US. She was a Social Development officer for UNICEF in the Southeast Asia office as well as the Social Scientist at WHO/SEARO in New Delhi. She serves as a board member of the International Foundation for Ewha Womans University and on the Global Advisory Board of the Harvard AIDS Initiative. She is also a founding member of the Women Mayor’s Network in association with the National Democratic Institute. In 2019, she was appointed to the Gender Advisory Panel convened by H. E. Ambassador Volkan Bozkir, the President of the 75th UN General Assembly. A former columnist for the EarthTimes newspaper, she is co-editor with Dr Jonathan Samet of the WHO monograph, “Gender, Women, and the Tobacco Epidemic.” Yoon received her A.B. in French literature with honors, a Ph.D. in anthropology from the University of Michigan and has a certificate in computer graphics.
Daniel Thomas
Professor, Cardiologist, and Vice Chairman @Alliance Contre le Tabac (ACT) and the National Committee Against Tobacco (CNCT)
Cardiologist, Pr Daniel Thomas worked until 2016 in the Medical Department at the Institute of Cardiology, Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital, Paris VI University, France, and was at the head of this Department from 1992 to 2005. Honorary president of the French Federation of Cardiology (FFC) (1999-2003), currently member of its ethics committee, he is still very active within the FFC and particularly in cardiovascular prevention, especially smoking prevention, among the French cardiologists and across different media, press and broadcasting. He is a member of the Prevention Working Group, of the French Society of Cardiology. He has been a teacher of the “Diplome Interuniversitaire de Tabacologie” in Paris University since 1997. He is also Vice Chairman of the “Alliance Contre le Tabac – ACT” (Alliance Against Tobacco), Vice Chairman of the “National Committee Against Tobacco” (Comité National Contre le Tabac - CNCT) and Spokesperson of the “Société Francophone de Tabacologie” (SFT).
