Where Do Our Tax Dollars Go?

The property tax system is the primary method of financing local governments in New Hampshire, while State tax revenues come from a wide variety of sources. Unfortunately, New Hampshire’s tax system fails to meet at least two critical criteria for evaluating state tax systems – it neither generates revenue in an equitable manner nor does it yield an amount of revenue adequate for maintaining essential public services.

Join New Hampshire Fiscal Policy Institute's Senior Policy Analyst Phil Sletten and NHMA's Government Finance Advisor Becky Benvenuti, who will explain the primary revenue sources we rely on to fund public services in New Hampshire and some key policy decisions that have had effects on state and local revenues. Special emphasis will be placed on the interplay with federal funds and the impact potential federal budget decisions could have on public services here in New Hampshire. There will be ample time for audience question and answer session.
