A year into a global pandemic that has rocked education systems around the world, forcing school closures and triggering a rapid shift to distance learning, the Education Equity Research Initiative will host a closeout event to discuss the implications of COVID-19 in exacerbating disparities among learners. Since its launch in 2016, the Equity Initiative has convened dozens of institutions at the intersection of research, policy, and practice to strengthen our understanding of the most pressing education equity challenges. Drawing on lessons from the research, tool development, and coalition-building, we consider what it means to champion Education 2030 in a post-COVID-19 world.
Join us on March 31st from 8:30-10:00 AM EST as we discuss the inequities deepened by COVID-19, the trajectories of learning loss during the pandemic, and the policy and resource implications for strengthening equity as schools begin to reopen. From mapping global school closures to examining unequal access to learning materials and unequal effects of stopgap interventions, we’ll hear from presenters from the Center for Global Development (CGD), FHI 360, RTI International, and the ASER Center on how they’ve been examining education equity during COVID-19.
