How can we design our cities to meet the social, economic and environmental challenges of our century? The answer is not simple, but we can certainly say that the challenges of 2020, a year deeply marked by a pandemic, are forcing us to rethink our current models.
As part of the revision of its Urban Master Plan, the City of Westmount is hosting Larry Beasley, one of the world’s most renowned urban planners. Beasley, former Vancouver’s director of urban planning, says that building a sustainable city begins with taking care of the aesthetic and experiential aspects of the places we create. People will fall in love with human-scale cityscapes and only then will they adopt more sustainable urban development.
