Behavioral Health in Retirement for Fire Service Members

This training will address retirement from the fire service, the potential implications on behavioral health and the importance of preparing for this significant life transition, both as a member approaching retirement and as someone who may act as critical support to a colleague, friend, family member or client nearing the conclusion of their active duty career.

Molly Jones, LSW, Clinical Outreach Coordinator for the IAFF Center of Excellence, will be joined by Chris Fields, retired Major for the Oklahoma City Fire Department and member of Local 157 Oklahoma City. Chris served citizens of Oklahoma City, OK for 31 years and 7 months before retiring in March of 2017. Since that time, Chris has dedicated himself to increasing awareness of the behavioral health needs of first responders and shares his story of recovery and personal growth across the country.

This webinar will discuss the realities of retirement among fire service members, including special considerations for transition, planning for additional free time and strategies for supporting others during this phase of life. This webinar is intended for fire service members, administrators, spouses, family members and treatment providers. Active duty members are highly encouraged to join as to be best equipped with valuable insight for future transition.
