Contempora Fabrics, based in Lumberton N.C., normally makes fabric for baseball uniforms. When the quarantine hit, they sent all of their workers home on a Friday. By Monday they were back open repurposing fabric for masks. Ron will detail the American ingenuity it took to throw together an entire supply chain on the fly to solve a mask shortage with baseball uniform fabric.

Ron Roach

Founded in 1972, Contempora Fabrics is an employee owned circular knit company based in Lumberton, NC. Ron Roach joined the company in 1985 as VP of Sales and was appointed President in August 2012. Contempora has evolved into one of the premier knit fabric manufacturers in the US, with over 200 machines and a capacity of 2 million pounds per month. Ron was presented with the 2019 Business Person of the Year award by UNC Pembroke.

Mike Todaro is the Managing Director of the Americas Apparel Producers’ Network, based in Atlanta. Mike joined the staff in 1995. The AAPN has grown to be the only organization in the industry to have, as members, one or more of the leading companies in all 30 links of the apparel/textile supply chain ‘from the dirt to the shirt’. Today nearly 200 organizations and over 1,500 senior executives are networked with daily broadcasts and a 300 element online resource database. The AAPN is known by US brands and retailers as the only true source of production in the Western Hemisphere. Mr. Todaro is a retired US Air Force LtCol and a retired IBM Apparel Industry manager.
