Holistic modeling of HPC, FaaS, and Edge applications with RADON and SODALITE TOSCA extensions
Part of the TOSCA Implementation Webinar Series

During this webinar series, leading developers and users of TOSCA agreed to share their experiences with you. They will show demonstrations of TOSCA-based systems and examples of TOSCA service templates. They’ll also explain the unique benefits of TOSCA for their application domains.

Next Implementation Story:

Defining an integrated scenario with the ability to deploy distributed and heterogeneous software simultaneously across HPC, Function-as-a-Service (FaaS), and edge is a complex and challenging endeavour. In this seminar we will overview the TOSCA extensions defined by the EU projects RADON and SODALITE that enable such heterogeneous deployments. We will tell the story of how, by joining forces, the two projects have holistically integrated these extensions and the modelling and orchestration toolchain that can leverage them. Industrial use cases that further demonstrate the applicability of the joint RADON and SODALITE extensions will be showcased.

Giuliano Casale
Reader @Imperial College London
Giuliano Casale joined the Department of Computing at Imperial College London in 2010, where he is currently a Reader. Previously, he worked as a research scientist and consultant in the capacity planning industry. He teaches and does research in performance engineering and cloud computing, topics on which he has published more than 100 refereed papers. He serves on the editorial boards of IEEE TNSM and ACM TOMPECS and as current chair of ACM SIGMETRICS.
Domenico Presenza
Senior Researcher at the Engineering R&D Lab
Domenico Presenza is Senior Researcher at the Engineering R&D Lab. He got his University Degree in Computer Science at University of Pisa. He has a background in a background in Distributed Computing and Multi-Agent Systems. His current research interests concerns Socially Assistive Robotics and IoT. Currently he is leading the team developing SARA a Socially Assistive Robotic solution envisaged for the Engineering’s AREAS healthcare suite. During his professional life, he has been author of different scientific publications presented at international conferences.
Dragan Radolović
Project Manager @XLAB Research
Dragan Radolović graduated from University of Ljubljana in 1998 with a B.Sc. thesis titled “Image database queries based on color information”. His background includes work in the financial field (banks, financial institutions) and other software industry as a software architect and project manager. His main points of interest are Cloud architectures. Currently he works at XLAB Research as a project manager and work package leader on the SODALITE H2020 project.
Kamil Tokmakov
Research Engineer @SODALITE project
Kamil Tokmakov got his master's degree in Communications Technology at Ulm University in 2019 and joined the HPC center in Stuttgart as a research engineer. He is currently working in SODALITE project and responsible for modelling and orchestration of HPC use cases. His current research interests are Cloud and HPC infrastructures, SDN and network coding.
