Gender identity is a complex issue. For many, it is also a new and challenging issue. Even for those of us with the best intentions of being as inclusive as possible of people who identify as transgender or non-binary, there can remain fear of saying the wrong thing, and that can prevent us from providing the best possible peer support.
This webinar is designed to help Certified Peer Specialists gain greater understanding of the trans* experience and learn how to better support and communicate with people who are transgender, or who may be questioning their gender identity.
Luke Scarborough, NP, QMed & Positive Impact Health Centers will present information on the trans* experience, which will be followed by Q&A, and a panel of transgender and non-binary Certified Peer Specialists and other adults who will share their personal experiences and insights.
Topics covered include:
Distinguishing between sex, gender identity, gender expression, and attraction.
Tips for people struggling with gender identity
Things a trans person might go through when they begin to acknowledge their true gender identity
Strategies for dealing with difficult situations with family, work, or in the community
