Serving Guests with Disabilities While Implementing COVID-19 Safety Measures
Lodging facilities operating or reopening during this pandemic have already or will be implementing measures to protect their guests and employees from COVID-19 exposure. How will those measures impact service to guests with disabilities and a facility’s compliance with ADA Title III requirements? This program will address many of the issues that may arise from COVID-19-related operational changes that can result in ADA Title III liability if not properly managed. They include:
• Changes to lodging facility points of entry, parking, or accessible routes
• New queue lines
• Mask wearing and the impact on communications with guests who are deaf or hard of hearing
• Providing assistance to individuals with disabilities who have sight or mobility disabilities while maintaining distance
• Removal of dining and work surfaces to reduce seating capacity
