Join Rai and a panel of contributors who bring different experiences to the table (personal and professional) as they explores some of the different ways that voice-hearing and visions is depicted in TV series.
In this event we'll be looking at examples with a some kind of sci-fi/fantasy twist ... including Expanse, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Altered Carbon, Mr Robot and Jessica Jones.
As well as looking at some clips from these shows and sharing our responses to them, we'll also be zooming out to consider some of the wider issues. What does this genre offer us? What is missing? Why are some depictions of voices/visions more common than others? Has voices/visions become a 'trope'? What stereotypes might they perpetuate? If a voice-hearer wrote it, what might be different?
This event is set up as a webinar. That means that the only cameras on will be the panel - attendees can watch/listen and share their responses on the chat module. At certain parts of the event we'll be creating a space for participants to give comments or responses in person (inviting them to switch their camera on or simply turn on their mic). This is optional, obviously ... you're welcome to just come and listen too.
**A note on privacy and live streaming
This event will be live streamed and recorded on YouTube. Participants and the chat will not be visible on the live stream. You will only be visible if you choose to make a comment in person (turning on your camera and/or mic).
After the event we will make the recording 'private' and wait for 7 days before publishing it. This will give anyone who contributes in person the opportunity to ask us to remove them from the recording (and we're very happy to do this - your privacy is important to us).
We ask everyone to read the event information page so that they understand how to use Zoom and get the chance to read the Intervoice Community Guidelines we use in our events.
