Dr. Jokha Alharthi is an award-winning Omani writer and Associate Professor in the Arabic department at Sultan Qaboos University, Muscat. She was the first Arab author to win the 2019 Man Booker International Prize for her novel Celestial Bodies. Her book Narinjah was also awarded the Sultan Qaboos Award for culture, art, and literature in Oman. Being an author of twelve books, Dr. Alharthi engages the reader to experience Oman’s relationship with its history through the eyes of the characters.
The discussion between Jokha Alharthi and AGYA alumnus Bilal Orfali will focus on her recent publication Harir al-Ghazalah, and the challenges of writing modern literature in the Arab World in general.
The conversation will be held in Arabic with simultaneous translation into English.
