NEPS: The Balanced Approach to Literacy Development in the Early Years
Twin webinar Wednesday 12th August 2 - 3.30pm & Thursday 13th of August 2 - 3.30pm.

The Balanced Approach to Literacy Development in the Early Years draws on international research, evidence based practice and samples of that practice in Irish primary schools to give a coherent and comprehensive guide to teachers. It is also aligned with the new Primary Language Curriculum.

This is a resource that can be used by class teachers working with children from Junior Infants to First Class. It may also be helpful to schools who have identified the need to improve reading and literacy standards as part of the school-self-evaluation process. Some schools may also like to use the resource to support the work of a professional learning community focusing on literacy.

This resource contains:

Suggestions for developing practice

Supporting resources and materials

32 short video clips of best practice in action showing teachers and children in Irish classrooms

Summary of research evidence practice in action

Educational Psychologists @NEPS
NEPS psychologists work with both primary and post-primary schools and are concerned with learning, behaviour, social and emotional development. Each psychologist is assigned to a group of schools. NEPS psychologists specialise in working with the school community. They work in partnership with teachers, parents and children in identifying educational needs. They offer a range of services aimed at meeting these needs, for example, supporting individual students (through consultation and assessment), special projects and research.
