Dr. Carmen Boening
Deputy Section Manager @Jet Propulsion Laboratory
Dr. Carmen Boening is a research scientist and Deputy Manager of the Earth Science Section at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, California Institute of Technology. She has received her PhD in Physics with focus on Physical Oceanography in 2009 from the University of Bremen, Germany. Dr. Boening joined JPL in the same year as a postdoc to work primarily on investigating global ocean circulation as measured by the Gravity Recovery And Climate Experiment (GRACE). She was appointed as GRACE Project Scientist and Group Supervisor of JPL’s Sea Level and Ice Group in 2015. In early 2018, she joined the JPL Earth Science Section management team as Deputy Manager. Her research interests are in interdisciplinary sea level science and climate/ocean interactions utilizing data from various satellite missions and climate models.
