Foster Care Virtual Town Hall
The State of Foster Care 2021 Town Hall: A look at how Michigan’s foster care system has changed in the pandemic.
The pandemic changed how we go about our daily routines and care for ourselves and our families. Among the journey we’ve all adapted and discovered some silver linings and new solutions to solve unexpected challenges.

At Samaritas we’ve navigated the new environment for our foster kids by using technology to help more families connect with their birth parents and prospective families – but it hasn’t always been easy.

It’s why Samaritas and foster care experts are getting together for a virtual town hall to discuss how the fallout from the Coronavirus Pandemic has stressed the system.

They'll also talk about how the community can help the 11,000 foster kids in Michigan get the quality care they need and deserve.

Emmy-winning journalist Cynthia Canty of Detroit Public Television (DPTV) will serve as the moderator for this critical conversation. Canty is a lifelong resident of metro Detroit and has been on television or radio in Southeast Michigan since 1979.

Canty will be joined by the following foster care experts:

•Stacie Bladen, Interim Executive Director at Children's Services Agency, Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS)

•Jennifer Stevens, foster and adoptive parent, Samaritas Foster Care Director

•Katie McCuen, former foster child, Samaritas Foster Parent Recruiter

•Brenda Baker-Mbacke’, Michigan CASA Director, Care House of Oakland County

•Jessica and Thomas Rodgers, foster parents and Michigan teachers

•Clarkston Morgan, foster advocate and Chief Operating Officer, W4 Construction Group

We look forward to seeing you online and participating with these esteemed panelists. Feel free to jump into the discussion with thoughtful questions or personal anecdotes.
