Rome's Urban History Through Maps and Views
In this talk, art historian and author Jessica Maier will introduce you to a series of maps and bird's-eye views that tell Rome's history across the ages. From ancient marble tablets to Renaissance prints and modern tourist plans, these works allow us to trace the evolution of a city that has had many lives and incarnations over its three millennia of existence. 

About the Presenter:

Jessica Maier teaches Art History at Mount Holyoke College. Her research focuses on Renaissance cartography and print culture. Her most recent book is The Eternal City: A History of Rome in Maps (University of Chicago Press, 2020). Maier holds a Ph.D. from Columbia University and is the recipient of major fellowships from the American Academy in Rome and the National Endowment for the Humanities.
