The Action Renewables Energy Association (AREA) is delighted to host its latest webinar with expert speakers exploring the production and use of hydrogen, to contribute to security of supply and a low carbon economy.

We will also delve into the recently launched ‘UK Hydrogen Strategy’ which promises a hydrogen revolution and coordinated and integrated hydrogen economy in the UK by 2030.

Diana Raine
Project Director @Hy-Energy
Diana Raine is the managing director of Smart Hydrogen Consulting. She has worked in the hydrogen energy sector for the past 20 years and understands the challenges involved in transforming a world dominated by fossil fuels to one where clean hydrogen has a significant role to play. She has developed and delivered flagship hydrogen energy projects of significant scale, including collaborative funded projects. A respected board member, she provides advisory services to a broad range of clients, from start-ups to multi-nationals right across the globe, providing guidance and analysis on the social benefits and market opportunities presented by the energy transition.
Paul McCormack
Lead Partner @Belfast Metropolitan College
Paul has a robust record of achievement in all levels of management roles including founder/CEO of multi-award winning start-up SMEs, securing several international awards for innovation and leading highly successful international collaborative projects. Project successes include forming, submitting and winning several EU R&D bids including the €12.36M GenComm renewable energies bid and the H2020 BIMcert project - the first H2020 project secured by any college in the FE sector. Other project work includes leading winning project bids on renewable energy, energy storage, green technology, clean technology, cyber security, IOT adaptations and Smart Cities.
Dr. James Waters
Hydrogen Development Manager @European Marine Energy Centre
Dr James Waters is the Hydrogen Development Manager at the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC), where he identifies and develops opportunities for EMEC to grow its hydrogen-related R&D and commercial consultancy business streams. James also liaises with the Scottish and UK governments and key stakeholders to address market mechanisms and business models to facilitate development of the sector. James joined EMEC in 2020, previously having worked in the Carbon Trust energy systems team, where he carried out research on a wide range of energy decarbonisation issues, including on the role for hydrogen in delivering ‘net zero’ energy systems.
John Begley
Project Manager @European Marine Energy Centre
John is an EMEC Project Manager based in Northern Ireland who helps run our Ireland office and who is involved in developing new business opportunities North and South. This includes supporting several projects involving hydrogen as well as supporting Mayo County Council with the delivery of the €12.3m INTERREG NWE MegaAWE project (Maturing utility-scale Airborne Wind Energy towards commercialisation).
John McLeister
Director for Sales and Business Development @Wrightbus
John McLeister began his career with Wrightbus 31 years ago. John joined as an technician apprentice at a time when the workforce numbered 139 employees . John was placed unto a fast track management progression plan and as held various management roles . John is currently Director for Sales and Business Development as well as Managing Director of Wrightbus International.
