Indonesia-South Africa: A South-South partnership in the making

Since 1948, the Republic of Indonesia has adopted a philosophy of “mendayung antara dua karang” (“rowing between two reefs”). This foreign policy sees it taking neither a passive nor reactive stand on international issues but rather active participation in their settlement. In its new book commemorating the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and South Africa titled “Indonesia – South Africa: a South-South Partnership in the Making”, the authors unpack how peaceful and productive relations have grown between the two nations. The book contains writings and perspectives from various scholars on a variety of topics, such as historical relations, contemporary issues, and ideas of future endeavours that can be explored by the two countries
