Annie Bird has served as Director of the Guatemala Human Rights Commission-USA since 2017, but has worked for human rights in Guatemala and Honduras since 1994. She lived for 15 years in Guatemala, coordinating with social movements throughout Guatemala and Honduras, and to a lesser degree in southern Mexico and El Salvador. GHRC under her leadership supports a program of cooperation between the human rights community in Guatemala and Honduras, including support for the prosecution of Berta Caceres' murderers and campesino communities in the Bajo Aguan region. Currently based in Washington, DC she works extensively in the US Congress to demand changes in US policies that place Guatemalan and Honduran human rights defenders at risk.
