Human activity from offshore construction for oil and gas platforms and wind farms, dredging, shipping, and military and other sonar or seismic surveys, generates underwater sound. The resulting effects on marine life can range from very subtle behavioural reactions to physical damage and even death at very high exposure levels.

During this 45 minutes' free webinar (including a "Question-Answer" session), you will receive:
An introduction to a very ‘hot’ environmental topic - how to manage the impacts of underwater noise. You will gain insight into why the effects of underwater noise have become such an important environmental issue worldwide. We will share the fundamentals of the “risk-based approach” which is believed to be the most proactive way to address such noise impacts.

You will also learn how to apply the MIKE Underwater Acoustic Simulator (UAS), the tool of choice to model underwater noise for marine impact assessments. DHI’s cutting edge innovations to analyse movements of marine life in response to noise exposure using agent-based modelling will be described as well.

As an expert advisor, Frank has influenced national marine policy bodies including Defra, DECC (UK), BSH (Germany) and Naturstyrelsen (Denmark). Frank has also counselled the United Nations, the International Maritime Organisation, OSPAR, the London Convention and the European Commission. Frank holds a PhD degree in biology from Hamburg University, 1999.
