EES Online lecture: Rescuing the Mamluk Minbars of Cairo
This talk will discuss the minbars (stepped pulpits) made during the Mamluk period (1250-1517), which represents a climax in Egypt's Islamic art and architecture whether in design or craftsmanship. It will highlight the finest examples, exquisitely carved and inlaid, still surviving in Cairo’s religious monuments and in international collections. Then, it will explain how these fascinating architectural elements have become today extremely vulnerable.

Join Dr Omniya Abdel Barr (Egyptian Heritage Rescue Foundation) as she presents the work made during their recent project to study, document and protect these important gems in Historic Cairo.
