Effective teaching of literacy in the early years should include the explicit teaching of early literacy skills, with frequent and extensive opportunities to apply this knowledge in meaningful contexts. Shared reading is a powerful instructional method as big books engage children’s attention and imagination, drawing them into the reading process. It is during these shared moments that the teacher can focus children’s attention on the text to help them learn specific concepts, skills and strategies. In this webinar, we will explore how a wide to teach a range of early literacy skills (including concepts about print, phonological awareness, phonics, comprehension, high frequency words and vocabulary development) within the context of a big book.
