Scottish Branch Event
Thursday 3rd December, VITRUAL MEETING
Margaret Mitchell MSP and Graham Boyack
It had been intended that 2020 was going to be remembered as The Year of Mediation. Unfortunately, 2020 will be remembered for Covid 19 and Lockdowns. Notwithstanding the setback, Graham has been at the forefront of promoting and developing Mediation in Scotland and in this event will discuss what progress has been made and what could be achieved going forward.
It was hoped that the Scottish Mediation Bill would be passed this year. While things have not progressed as originally envisaged the MSP promoting the bill, Margaret Mitchell, will join us and give her thoughts on mediation in Scotland and what may be done to ensure the momentum is not lost.
Margaret Mitchell MSP represents Central Scotland. Originally a teacher she returned to University and obtained a law degree. Margaret is a former JP. Some of her roles held in parliament include her Party's Justice and Local Government Spokesperson and Convener of both the Justice Committee and Equal Opportunities Committee. Margaret is Shadow Minister for Community Safety and Deputy Convener of both the Justice Sub-Committee on Policing and the Scottish Government Handling of Harassment Complaints Committee.
Graham has been Director of Scottish Mediation since August 2012. He has contributed to policy and is a member of the Scottish Government Administrative Justice review and Digital justice Working Group. He is a pro-bono mediator with Edinburgh Sheriff Court Mediation Service. He has worked extensively in the third and public sector, having worked in Student Unions, The Festival City Theatres Trust and the Scottish Ambulance Service. He has an MBA and is a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute.
