Have you ever invested valuable time and resources into trying to fix a problem only to find that you were addressing the wrong issue? This webinar will help Tribal environmental leaders and water and waste managers to more easily identify and understand the true underlying causes of environmental and system problems. Understanding the root cause is the essential first step in addressing a problem as there are often multiple factors and causes that contribute to a difficult problem. The true cause may not be apparent without deep exploration. In this webinar, we describe and demonstrate two tools to help get to bottom of a problem. The primary tool, called the Five Why’s, provides a method for drilling down into a problem or issue. The second tool, called PESTEL, involves exploring the problem from different perspectives. By using these tools, Tribal environmental and resource managers will able to better define a problem and apply the appropriate solutions, be better poised for success, and maximize the efficiency of their Tribe’s staff time, money, and other resources.
