Science Showcase: Health Psychology and COVID-19
Who has time to read journals outside your own area of research, let alone the top science in the field? Looking to step up your department’s lunch series? APA makes the work easy with “Science Showcase,” a new webinar series on hot topics in psychological science research, presented firsthand by the authors who did the work. Each month, an editor from one of APA’s 89 journals will invite recently published researchers to showcase their findings. Join us as we learn from experts and emerging leaders, explore terrific new models and methods, and discover psychological science that inspires – all in just one hour!

In this month’s episode: COVID-19 has disrupted nearly every aspect of our lives, yet reactions to it have varied widely. As politics and panic continue to disrupt public health efforts, how can we use insights from this pandemic to predict behaviors during the next one? Kenneth Freedland, editor of Health Psychology, will lead us through new research on the impact of media coverage, personal beliefs, and health status on behaviors linked to COVID-19 risk and recovery. Panelists will discuss their recent articles in the journal, offering perspective on the pivotal role of health psychology in understanding behavioral responses to public health crisis. There will be a moderated Q&A so participants can pose questions.
