Impact of COVID-19 on the manufacturing sector has led to industries operating at reduced capacities or complete shutdown. To mitigate spread of pandemic at workplace in India, renewed SOPs with health and safety measures have been issued by the government for mandatory implementation. Measures such as sanitized spaces, safe distancing, non-overlapping shifts, reduced workforce, sanitized transports are in practice across organizations.
These new SOPs are expected to be in force post COVID with safe distancing as the guiding rule as businesses recover to attain the new normal.
VDMA and EAC understand recovery post COVID in the Indian manufacturing sector would be challenging. However, adoption of Robotics and Automation for hazardous (e.g. painting, welding) critical (e.g. assembly), repetitive and non-critical tasks (e.g. pick and place) would be the key to recovery while maintaining safe distancing with the reduced workforce.
