This presentation will outline the pros and cons of each hydraulic fluid base stock below:
1. Vegetable oils (natural esters) such as canola and soya – biodegradability and aquatic toxicity
2. Conventional zinc-based hydrocarbon mineral oils – non-biodegradable and aquatically toxic
3. Ashless (non-zinc) hydrocarbon mineral oils that are inherently biodegradable and aquatically non-toxic
4. Ashless hydrocarbon mineral oils that are readily biodegradable and aquatically non-toxic
5. Synthetic esters that are both readily biodegradable, aquatic-friendly and non-sheening

He joined Petro-Canada in November 2016 – primarily responsible for providing technical support to major forestry and mining customers. He worked for Imperial Oil from 1983 to 2014 as a Senior Technical Specialist and Field Engineering support. Ray is a Certified Lubrication specialist since 2012, a member of STLE (Society of Tribologists & Lubrication Engineers) since 1990 and was a national member of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy & Petroleum from 1991 to 2014. Vincent Gauthier (Field Sr. Sales Manager @Petro-Canada) Vincent has been working in the oil and gas industry for Petro-Canada and Suncor Energy in various roles for more than 11 years. He has a BA from Sherbrooke University, as well as a business strategy certificate at Ecole Superieure du Commerce de Pau,Fr. Vincent currently works and manages lubricant accounts in BC. His focus is working in collaboration with our technical service group to provide Petro-Canada Lubricants’ customer with the lower cost of ownership for their maintenance department.
