In preparation for the difficult work ahead (before the pandemic) ReThink Media has been working with an expert in resilience-building, teaching our whole staff new resilience and self-care practices while also helping us as an organization build new institutional policies to support this work.
Our trainer, Olga Phoenix, comes from a background supporting people doing some of the hardest and most emotionally taxing work there is. She's supported people working with refugees, survivors of violence and trauma, and first responders.
Channeling for Olga, to sustain the work for the long-haul we have to challenge the premise that being “really” dedicated to the cause has to mean:
• Foregoing a healthy work-life balance
• Giving up our physical and mental health and well-being
• Feeling guilty and suffering from imposter or martyr syndrome while we watch those vacation days stack up without taking them.
