Generation Rise is a filmed virtual theater work, sharing real-life stories of six New York City teenagers, ages 16-19, during the year 2020-2021. This new work in the Undesirable Elements series focuses on the voices and experiences of Black and POC teens from across New York City reflecting on their early lives prior to 2020, and the significance of a year of growing up during a global pandemic and renewed calls for racial justice. Generation Rise is commissioned by New 42/New Victory Theater and created in partnership with Urban Word NYC.
Join us on June 17th for a special online preview screening and conversation with the cast and creative team of Generation Rise, and hosted by poet, performer, and Urban Word NYC Teaching Artist Darian Dauchan.
The presentation is approximately 1 hour long, and is appropriate for ages 11+. Live captioning will be provided.
Please note: Generation Rise is performed by six teenagers from NYC, not actors. Although not explicit, the production contains references to, and teenagers’ experiences of, the global COVID-19 pandemic, national racial violence, loneliness and isolation, anxiety, body image, chronic illness, and mental health.
