The media landscape is constantly evolving. As an artist looking for airtime or ink, you need to be strategic and creative about attracting attention. It involves some introspection, a bit of homework, and knowing who to bring your story to. Blanketing all of media with your pitch is no longer an effective plan. Influencing the right people with a targeted pitch, coupled with social media traction, will get better results.

Lisa Brandt enjoyed a long career in broadcasting, where she interviewed the famous and not-so-famous along the way. She wrote the book that named this panel – Make the Media Want You, An Insider’s Guide to Creating Persuasive Pitches. With the book, published in 2018, she aimed to demystify the inner workings of media, and help inexperienced artists tailor their media pitches for a better chance at success. Lisa is now a full-time voice-over artist, content creator, and staff to a senior cat. Lisa Brandt is a former broadcaster who wrote the book, Make the Media Want You: An Insider’s Guide to Creating Persuasive Pitches, in hopes of demystifying the process of getting media attention.
