Strategy is the backbone of the success of any business, but, given the volatile, hypercompetitive world we live in, strategic thinking is arguably more essential than ever. In this session, we'll cover key concepts—such as the Strategy Canvas, the Four Actions Framework, and the Six Paths Framework—from W. Chan Kim and Renée Mauborgne's Blue Ocean Strategy, which focuses on creating uncontested market spaces where competitors are irrelevant (blue oceans) rather than fighting with competitors for dominance of existing market space (bloody, red oceans).
Importantly, we'll do in this session what Kim and Mauborgne don't do—we'll examine the application of their ideas and research in the specific context of organizations providing professional development, continuing education, and lifelong learning. The concepts will apply even if your learning business is one of the lucky few not plagued by fierce competition, as the tools and principles also offer ways to stand out and increase the efficiency and efficacy of your learning business.
Celisa Steele and Jeff Cobb, co-founders of Tagoras, will lead this session, sponsored by CommPartners, and Rich Finstein, CEO of CommPartners, will contribute his thoughts on strategy for leading learning.
