Vernal Ponds and the Animals and Plants that Need Them

April showers don’t just bring rain, they also produce vernal ponds! Join The State Museum's Nature Educator Beth Erikson and Ryan Reed from the Department of Conservation & Natural Resources’ Bureau of Forestry for a talk about these seasonal ponds in Pennsylvania and the plants and animals that need them to survive.

Ryan Reed, Natural Resource Program Specialist, has worked in the PA DCNR’s Bureau of Forestry for approximately four years in the Communications Section. Prior to working with DCNR, Mr. Reed taught Biology and Environmental Science for 11 years. An avid outdoorsman, Mr. Reed is the editor and lead writer for the Bureau’s weekly column, Forest Fridays. Many Pennsylvanians are familiar with his weekly fall foliage forecasts during autumn, as well.

Presentations will start at 12:15 PM and will last approximately 20 minutes followed by a question and answer period.

The State Museum will reopen with limited hours and with limited timed tickets on Friday, April 30, 2021. Visit statemuseumpa.org/reopening for more information regarding reopening.

Sessions will be presented over Zoom and are free, but registration is required. Once registration is complete, attendees will receive an attendance link and password for all of the sessions listed.
