Dr. Geoffrey Baird is the interim chair of the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology at the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle, WA. He is also the director of clinical chemistry at Harborview Medical Center and the co-director of UW’s Clinical Chemistry Postdoctoral Fellowship Program. He has lead the department for the past 4 years, notably through the COVID-19 pandemic, during which the department was one of the first clinical laboratories in the US to provide testing for SARS-CoV-2 at scale. Since March, the department has performed over 1.9 million COVID-19 RT-PCR tests, >65,000 of which have been performed on patients from the Benton-Franklin Health District.
