“Any Mummers ‘Allowed In,” better known as “The Mummers Song” by the band SIMANI, is one of the most iconic tunes from this province & a major influencer in the revival of mummering in the 1980s. As part of the duo SIMANI (along with Sim Savory) from 1977 to 1997, Bud Davidge recorded twelve albums. Bud continues to write & record solo projects up to the present with five solo albums released to date. SIMANI had many appearances & performances through television and video with the most notable being the Land & Sea episode called “A Fortune Bay Christmas” now commonly referred to as “The Mummers Show” which has been broadcast on CBC Television every year since 1986. During their tenure, SIMANI was awarded awarded two achievement awards: The ECMA award for Pioneers in East Coast Music & the Lifetime Achievement Award from Music NL. In 2012 Bud was awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws Degree from Memorial University for his contributions to the local music community
