The Government of Uganda (GoU) has applied for credit from the International Development Association (IDA) towards the implementation of the Uganda Digital Acceleration Project (UDAP). UDAP builds on the foundations being laid down by the Regional Communications Infrastructure Programme (RCIP-5) and the completed phases (1, 2, 3 and 4) of the National Data Transmission Backbone Infrastructure (NBI) and is designed to accelerate digital transformation of Uganda to achieve the aspirations of the Digital Transformation for Africa initiative, NDPIII and the Digital Uganda Vision among others. The Project will:
(1) Enhance access to secure ICT infrastructure through the expansion of the NBI connectivity across the country. (ii) establish e-waste collection, segregation and refurbishment centers (iii) Review and strengthen the policies to maximize participation of private sector in the development of broadband connectivity and delivery of digital services (iv) develop and rollout of secure digital services across priority sectors Education, Health, Agriculture, JLOS, Tourism and Trade (v) strengthen cybersecurity through the development of systems, policies, strategies and Governance framework and legislations (vi) Special attention will also be placed on connecting refugee host communities and settlements and (vii) develop digital services tailored to PWDs and extend ICT support to women, youth and the elderly thereby promoting digital inclusion in Uganda.
