The National Information Technology Authority, Uganda (NITA-U/the Authority) was created under the National Information Technology Authority, Uganda Act No. 4 of 2009 with a wide mandate that ensures the regulation of Information Technology (IT) in Uganda. Section 5 (q) of the Act mandates the Authority to protect and promote the interests of consumers or users of Information Technology services or solutions.
The Electronic Transactions Act, 2011 (ETA) and the Regulations made thereunder, prescribe rules and obligations on consumer protection, for providers of IT products and services. The said laws are complemented by the NITA-U (Certification of Providers of IT Products and Services) Regulations and the NITA-U (Authentication of IT Training) Regulations that set standards for providers of IT Products, Services and training.
