The power distribution sector in India is at the cusp of significant transition, with several mega trends evolving simultaneously focusing on decarbonization, digitization and decentralization. These trends are disruptive and affect the business-as-usual scenario of India's distribution companies (Discoms). Discoms need to innovate and evolve since they may soon need to manage bi-directional power flows, flatten load curves, adopt new metering technologies, and participate in clean power markets. Technological and financial agility will be key to their viability and transformation in this complex business environment.

This webinar seeks to draw practitioners across the Discom eco-system to draw linkages between innovation, technology and finance, and identify possible pathways that make the distribution sector operationally and financially viable. Panellists will reflect on the critical technologies needed to ensure discom resilience, ways to enable financing at scale and the policy and regulatory steps needed over the next three to five years.

This webinar is the third in the India Energy Transition Dialogues – a series convened by the Centre for Policy Research to explore different paths to meet India’s 21st century energy goals. Each webinar in this bi-weekly series will discuss different pathways proposed by think tanks and research groups working on specific pieces of India’s energy transition puzzle.
