Glass Lantern Slideshow
The Oregon Historical Society Research Library is pleased to present an original glass lantern slide program on the building of the Columbia River Highway. Comprised of over 100 hand-colored glass slides, the program was created in 2016 to celebrate the 100 year anniversary of the opening of the highway. Modeled after the great scenic highways in Europe, the program looks at the history of the roadway, including the politics of public parks in Portland, issues of grading, coping and the power of the automobile to enact change (for better or worse).
