Live Webinar - Engaging Residents in Function & Physical Activity Post Pandemic
Join AALNA for this 1 hour live webinar.

Speaker: Barbara Resnick, RN

Description: This 1-hour live course meets requirements toward the 40-hour recertification program required for certified administrators. COVID-19 restrictions have resulted in prolonged social isolation and limited physical and sensory stimulation of assisted living residents. This has negatively impacted residents' behavioral health, physical function, and cognition. Providers need updated strategies during the era of COVID-19 to 1) adequately assess residents with dementia for changes in behavior, physical function, and cognition 2) integrate innovative techniques, which also include family involvement, to minimize functional decline, encourage physical activity and engagement/participation, and manage behavioral symptoms among residents with memory, language, motor, sensory and perceptual impairments. This session will discuss the behavioral, functional, and cognitive impact of COVID-19 era restrictions on assisted living residents. Strategies for accurate assessment (using face to face methods and telehealth) and early recognition of behavioral symptoms, functional ability and cognitive decline of assisted living residents with dementia will be described. The implementation of innovative strategies to prevent and manage functional decline and decline in physical activity among assisted living residents with dementia during COVID-19 will also be highlighted using case examples.
